From Trauma to Whole-Hearted Living

A Journey of Self-Discovery from behind bars

My Mission

From behind bars I have embarked on a journey to better understand myself and the actions that landed me in prison. It turns out that trauma early in life is what shapes our ability to manage our emotions, and connect with others. My goal is to share parts of my story to show that healing is absolutely possible once we are able to better understand exactly what trauma is, and how it affects the mind, body, and soul.

What is Trauma?

In these videos, Dr. Gabor says it best...

"The greatest damage done by neglect, trauma or emotional loss is not the immediate pain they inflict but the long-term distortions they induce in the way a developing child will continue to interpret the world and her situation in it."

How Does trauma affect the brain?

This short video is very helpful in seeing the science in how the brain is affected by the trauma that we carry.

Hope After Trauma

There are a lot of new discoveries regarding trauma in the world of science. Below is a short video clip from one of my personal favorite trauma experts, Gabor Maté. He explains that trauma is not bad news, and how healing is absolutely possible.

"We may not be responsible for the world that created our minds, but we can take responsibility for the mind with which we create our world"

How Vulnerability Combats Trauma

This TED talk is incredibly insightful and full of wisdom. Brené Brown shares her story and I highly recommend that EVERYONE view this video.
